Sea Kayak Camp 2007

Team P&H surfing!

Team Surf

Sea Kayak Camp was a stunning success this year! Our little wave machine was working well. John Carmody and I (Ben) ran three weeks of intensive kayak instruction on Hunting Island, S.C. this January.
Last year we had some true adventures on our night navigation that got us getting home 3 hours late and a fat ear from the folks back at the ranch. This year no such adventures but some real quality learning experiences.
We had some terrific surf launching, landing and playing days with awesome navigation practice in both day and night time environments.
Night Paddling
Here we are, in the middle of a camera war, preparing for our night navigation where we paddled an hour longer due to a navigational learning experience.

Our little wave making machine allows us to have a great rescue, water reading and boat control spot in an easily controlled area.

Coming Home

Here is the boat ramp up Fripp Inlet, with Fripp Island in the background. This is a great launching/landing spot for those not staying on Hunting Island. The water temperature was a nice 55 degrees F this year with the air temperature a cooler 55 to 65 degrees F, but we never saw a frost whilst we were here.Fripp Inlet

During Camp, we spend a lot of time playing land-based games to improve our paddling. And sometimes, we even go paddling without our paddles – this allows us to make paddle flowers!Paddle Flower

Unfortunately we seem to have run someone over – I hope they are Okay!

Got Her!
All in all, we had 20 quality days on the water with 3 different groups. Plenty of chatting, eating and paddling was had in the cabins. This year John and I are expanding our Sea Kayak Camp locations but keeping the same focus – you the paddler decide what you want to learn. We aren’t tied to any agendas – just to having a good time learning about different aspects of sea kayaking with 7 other people all looking to have a great time.

Thank you all for coming – We hope we can do it again.
Ben and John.
